Personal World View
Everyone has a worldview, even those who say they don’t subscribe to the idea. Our personal worldview dictates how we interpret and interact with the world around us. I happen to subscribe to the fundamental Christian worldview. What does that mean?
First, please note that I said, “the fundamental Christian worldview” and not “a fundamental Christian worldview.” There is one Christian worldview, out of which many sub-variation have been established. When I look at the world, I see everything through the lens of Christianity. My purpose, function, and the events of my life are defined through it. On occasion, I have had people tell me that my worldview is a crutch, something I lean on way to much to get through life, but isn’t it the same for them and their worldview? They are simply hanging on to something else they feel makes more sense, and have instead, invested in it.
Many books have been written on worldview, and I’d have to say that my worldview is not very popular. Some people say, “it’s too exclusive, too restrictive and narrow minded” and “how can you say your worldview is the only true and right way to interpret ones life?” I can’t, and force you to believe it, the early Christian crusades proved that. I can only tell you how my worldview has impacted my life and how it enables me to interact with my environment in a way that is consistent with what I know to be true and right.
Truth, what is truth? Some people say, “what is true for you isn’t necessarily true for me.” I do not believe that truth is relative. I believe a “gray scale” of truth has been created by humanity over the millennia to allow us to live in a way that is consistent with our basic human nature. Truth is a difficult entity to stare down. We can avoid it, minimize it, slander it, undermine it and discount it, but at the end of the day, it remains the truth. I think people know truth when they see it, but often elect to set it aside because it conflicts with what they want to do. It is their choice after all.
Here’s the bottom line, you cannot be forced to view the world as I view it. You may disagree with all or part of my worldview and even go as far as actively working against my worldview, but to what end, after all, it is my worldview and my choice.
Sharing my worldview with others isn’t a crime, maybe one day it will be.
