A Stone’s Throw

A young man I know, was convicted of a crime and sentenced to prison. I know both his family and the victims family… at one point in time, we all had been friends. Every single relationship is now gone. Even as Christians, we have a choice to forgive or not forgive … we seem to choose poorly more often than not. This poem is how my heart deals with it all.

A STONE’S THROW

A man was judged, the verdict read, a family’s heads held low

The promise of a youthful son was dealt a deadly blow

The family wronged, blood in their eyes, with justice as the weight

A planted seed of bitterness, consuming them with hate

Two families at the crossroads, each carry their own chains

It’s a struggle for survival as they walk within the flames

But One is standing with them,  inside that hellish place

No judgment in His footsteps, His arms opened for embrace

He’s there to take the chains off,  to remove their hate and grief

To heal the broken hearted, and to bring them sweet relief

But they must in all humility, allow His healing touch

And realize they too offended and were forgiven much
