Life’s Debris
The heart can’t begin to understand, when surrounded by a mother’s womb
A place outside of all its known that can’t be comprehended
A voyage embarked with no clear end, on a sea of light and cold
And comes to rest upon this fact that change cannot be halted
A child can’t begin to understand, when removed from all they’ve ever known
To a distant land beyond their view or understanding, surrounded by a simple shell
And yet find a life that others only dream of, believing change would never come
Only to be undone with no chance the perfect paradise could be saved
A young man can’t begin to understand, with the world laid out before him
The choice he makes, a charted course followed, responding to the ebbs and flows
Yet finds himself in waters shallow, with no way to make the compass right and true
And so continues drifting on, for all the world to see
An old man can’t begin to understand, with so many lives now behind him
How a simple word could change the wind, bringing favor or destruction
Too many lines are now laid out, a heavy burden taken on
Silence reigns, strong cords removed, now death a welcomed stranger
Our hearts can’t begin to understand, a friend surrounded by a family saddened
His test far beyond the normal fare, with a timepiece set against him
A life cut short with no clear answer, as he fades with love expressed
And steps into a life eternal, embracing all he knew was there
