Simple Prayer
Although I have been at this exact spot a thousand times before, I am still excited about the possibilities. I lean into the heavy ornate door, and as it silently swings open, I step out onto the large polished floor and into the Great Hall. As I make my way down the hall to another large door at its end, I can hear the sound of a choir singing. I pause for a second, taking in the beautiful music and the voices that seem to sweeten the air around me. “I could easily lose myself in the moment and miss my appointment if I’m not careful”, I think to myself. I make my way to the end of the hallway, open the large ornate door, and boldly step into the room.
I pause for a moment to take everything in. This room is unlike any other. The floor is translucent, and as blue as the coastal waters off of any island in the ocean. Walking on it, gives one the impression you are walking on water. This room is big, several hundred yards square. On each side of the room are massive arches. In each archway, stands a Cherubim, a lance in one hand, and in the other, an outstretched palm with fire in it. You would think I’d be afraid, but I’m not, because I’m in my Father’s house.
I make my way to the far end of the room toward a small laced covered table. I can see my Father waiting for me. The smile on His face puts my heart at ease. I am so excited to be here again and I can see the excitement on His face as well. He welcomes me and I tell Him how happy I am to see Him again, that there is no other Father like Him and how happy I am to be His son. It makes Him smile.
My Father is a King, and not just any King, He is, THE KING! There are those who don’t acknowledge Him as their King, but one day they will. His name is holy and it will forever remain holy. There is no other King like my Father.
We sit down at a table set for two, as our food is brought to us. My Father asks me about my day and what I’ve been up to. I tell Him, I’ve not represented Him as I should. I’ve made mistakes since the last time I met with Him. I tell Him I struggle with life and that I’m sorry for the persistent failures. He tells me He knows and He encourages me to always do what is right. I tell Him I can only do it with His help, that if I’m left to myself, I will fail. “I know” He says.
I thank Him for being so gracious and for blessing me with so much. I thank Him for loving me the way He does and for even allowing me to meet with Him at a moment’s notice. I thank Him for always being there for me and for always listening to me, even when I’m angry at Him. Honestly, I can’t thank Him enough, because without Him, I would have no life.
I tell Him I am struggling to make ends meet financially and I’ve been dealing with some health issues lately. I ask Him to help me through the rough patches in my life. He responds, “I know the needs you have child, and I am settling your debts. Learn to be patient, I have so much I want to teach you through these trials. You know my entire Kingdom is at your disposal, but you must listen to me.” I know He has my best interest at heart, so I tell Him I trust Him.
We finish our meal and as I get up to leave. My Father says, “are we on for tomorrow?” With a smile on my face I say, “may it be so”. I can hardly wait to meet with Him again!
